PERMABOND ET5145

Main features

  • FDA 175.105/175.300 Compliance
  • Impact-Resistant Structural Bonding
  • 50 to 80-Minute Pot Life

Product Description

Permabond® ET5145 is a 1:1 mixable, two-part epoxy adhesive formulated with excellent environmental durability and resistance to impact and vibration. Specifically designed for high-strength structural bonding of metals, woods, composites, and certain plastics, this epoxy uniquely meets the strict requirements of FDA 175.105 and 175.300. This makes it highly suitable for manufacturing and assembly applications where the cured adhesive may come into contact with food or beverages.

Key features

  • FDA Compliant: Formulated to meet FDA 175.105 and 175.300 standards for safe use in food and beverage contact applications.
  • High structural strength: Provides excellent shear and peel strength across a wide variety of substrates, alongside robust impact and vibration resistance.
  • Room temperature cure: Offers a convenient 1:1 mix ratio and cures fully at room temperature, while boasting a long 50-80 minute pot life for complex assemblies.

Applications / Suitable for

  • Applications requiring FDA compliance for food or beverage contact
  • Structural bonding of metal, wood, composites, and certain plastics
  • Assemblies subjected to high impact, vibration, and harsh environmental conditions

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.
A:1.3/ B:1.3
Work life @25°C
Work life is the amount of time we have to work with a material until it is no longer able to be easily worked and applied on a substrate. It is based on the change in viscosity and it can rely on the application requirements.
50 - 80 min hours

Thermal Properties
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg)
The glass transition temperature for organic adhesives is a temperature region where the polymers change from glassy and brittle to soft and rubbery. Increasing the temperature further continues the softening process as the viscosity drops too. Temperatures between the glass transition temperature and below the decomposition point of the adhesive are the best region for bonding. The glass-transition temperature Tg of a material characterizes the range of temperatures over which this glass transition occurs.
40-50 °C
Electrical Properties
Dielectric Strength
Dielectric strength is measured in kV per mm and is calculated by the Breakdown voltage divided by the thickness of the tested material. Those two properties go hand in hand and while Breakdown voltage is always thickness dependent, dielectric strength is a general material property. As an example, the dielectric strength of Polyimide is 236 kV/mm. If we place 1mm of Polyimide between two electrodes, it will act as an insulator until the voltage between the electrodes reaches 236 kV. At this point it will start acting as a good conductor, causing sparks, potential punctures and current flow.
15-25 kV/mm
