LORD 459X

Main features

  • Adhesion-Promoting Surface Treatment
  • Low-Viscosity Adhesive Application
  • Brush, Dip or Spray Application

Product Description

LORD® 459X Adhesion Enhancer/Surface Modifier is a low-viscosity, xylene-based surface treatment designed to promote adhesion to difficult-to-bond thermoplastic elastomers, thermoplastic polyolefins and EPDM. Supplied pre-diluted for direct application, it can be used with LORD acrylic, urethane and epoxy structural adhesives, as well as compatible coatings and double-sided tapes. The material requires no mixing or additional dilution and can be applied by brush, dip or spray.

Key Features

  • Promotes adhesion to difficult elastomers, including TPE, TPO and EPDM substrates.
  • Ready-to-use formulation requires no mixing or dilution before application.
  • Low-viscosity application supports brush, dip and spray methods.
  • Low dry-film requirement with an optimum dry-film thickness of approximately 0.1 mil (2.5 µm).

Applications / Suitable for

  • Surface treatment of TPE, TPO and EPDM
  • Adhesion promotion for acrylic, urethane and epoxy structural adhesives
  • Adhesion enhancement for coatings
  • Surface preparation for compatible double-sided tapes

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
