LOCTITE 290

Main features

  • Wicking-Grade Thread Application
  • Low-Viscosity Threadlocking Application
  • High-Strength Thread Retention

Product Description

LOCTITE® 290 is a medium to high-strength wicking-grade anaerobic threadlocker designed for post-assembly locking and sealing of preassembled threaded fasteners. Its low-viscosity formulation penetrates into threads by capillary action, making it ideal for fasteners that have already been tightened and assembled. The adhesive cures in the absence of air between closely fitting metal surfaces, preventing loosening and leakage caused by vibration, shock and dynamic loads. LOCTITE 290 also helps protect assembled fasteners against corrosion while providing reliable long-term retention in machinery, maintenance and industrial applications.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Wicking-grade threadlocker for post-assembly applications.
  • Penetrates preassembled threaded fasteners through capillary action.
  • Helps prevent loosening caused by vibration and shock.
  • Seals threads against leakage and corrosion.
  • Low-viscosity formulation for easy penetration into fine threads.
  • One-component anaerobic adhesive requiring no mixing.
  • Suitable for maintenance, repair and production environments.

Recommended Applications

  • Locking of preassembled fasteners.
  • Set screws, instrument screws and electrical connectors.
  • Maintenance and repair applications.
  • Threaded assemblies requiring post-assembly locking.
  • Industrial equipment exposed to vibration and dynamic loads.

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
