DYMAX 718

Main features

  • Multi-Process Thermal-Spray Masking
  • Opaque Gel Coverage Control
  • Defined Incineration Removal

Product Description

Dymax SpeedMask 718 Maskant is an opaque gel maskant for temporary protection during thermal-spray coating processes. The material is used with air plasma spray, HVOF, wire arc spray, and D-Gun coating operations where the applied mask must resist the process and preserve selected component areas. Light cure converts the placed gel into a durable temporary barrier, and the stated removal route uses incineration after processing. The product is used specifically for thermal-spray masking rather than general-purpose coating. Its application value comes from gel placement, cured process resistance, and a defined post-process removal method across several spray technologies.

Key features

  • Thermal-spray process coverage: The maskant supports air plasma, HVOF, wire arc, and D-Gun coating operations.
  • Opaque gel placement: The gel form supports localized application and visible coverage before cure.
  • Incineration removal route: The cured mask is removed by the documented burn-off process after coating.

Applications / Suitable for

  • Air plasma spray
  • HVOF and wire arc spray
  • D-Gun coating

Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application
