Main features

  • Optically Clear Structural Bonding
  • Glass-to-Metal Structural Assembly
  • Yellowing-Resistant Transparent Bonds

Product Description

Dymax 429 Optically Clear Structural Adhesive is a UV- and visible-light-curable structural adhesive for optically clear glass assemblies. It forms transparent bonds for glass-to-glass and metal-to-glass joining while also serving in large-area bonding and potting of critical components. The cured adhesive is formulated for optical clarity and resistance to yellowing, helping preserve appearance in transparent assemblies. Light exposure cures accessible bond regions through a suitable transparent substrate. Applications include decorative and technical glass bonding, metal-to-glass assemblies, large bonded areas, and transparent potting where optical and structural properties are required.

Key features

  • Optically clear bondline: Forms transparent cured bonds for glass assemblies and visible interfaces.
  • Glass-to-metal structure: Supports structural joining of glass to metal within the approved application range.
  • Yellowing-resistant clarity: The cured adhesive is formulated to retain optical appearance in transparent assemblies.

Applications / Suitable for

  • Glass-to-glass bonding
  • Metal-to-glass bonding
  • Large-area bonding and transparent potting

Refractive index
The refractive index determines how much the path of light is bent, or refracted, when entering a material. It is calculated by taking into account the velocity of light in vacuum compared to the velocity of light in the material. The refractive index calculation can be affected by the wavelength of light and the temperature of the material. Even though it is usually reported on standard wavelengths it is advised to check the TDS for the precise test parameters.

Thermal Properties
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg)
The glass transition temperature for organic adhesives is a temperature region where the polymers change from glassy and brittle to soft and rubbery. Increasing the temperature further continues the softening process as the viscosity drops too. Temperatures between the glass transition temperature and below the decomposition point of the adhesive are the best region for bonding. The glass-transition temperature Tg of a material characterizes the range of temperatures over which this glass transition occurs.
