DOWSIL 236

Main features

  • Durable, Dry-Surfaced Silicone Rubber Coating
  • Sticky-Material Adhesion Prevention
  • Multiple Application Methods

Product Description

DOWSIL™ 236 Dispersion Coating is a one-part silicone rubber dispersion designed to form a dry-surfaced, durable release and protective coating. Supplied as a low-viscosity white liquid, it cures at room temperature through reaction with atmospheric moisture to produce a tough, rubbery electrical-insulating layer. The coating can help prevent sticky materials from adhering to processing equipment, reduce buildup and cleanup, and protect surfaces from weathering and corrosion. It may be applied by spraying, brushing, dipping, roller coating, or stamp coating.

Key features

  • Durable silicone rubber coating: Cures from a low-viscosity liquid to a smooth, white, dry-surfaced rubber layer.
  • Release and surface protection: Helps release sticky materials, reduce process buildup, and protect surfaces from weathering and corrosion.
  • Room-temperature moisture cure: Oxime-cure formulation reacts with moisture vapor in the air without requiring high-temperature processing.
  • Flexible application options: Can be applied by spraying, brushing, dipping, roller coating, or stamp coating.
  • On-site application and repair: Can be applied or repaired without disassembling supported equipment.

Applications / Suitable for

  • Release coatings for rolls, conveyors, dryer flights, and molding operations
  • Protection of surfaces from weathering, corrosion, dirt, and sticky materials
  • Linings for plastic containers or vessels
  • Latex manufacturing, paint-spraying, and waste-handling equipment
  • Urethane and polyester molding operations

Specific Gravity
Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density of a substance to the density of a reference substance; equivalently, it is the ratio of the mass of a substance to the mass of a reference substance for the same given volume. For liquids, the reference substance is almost always water (1), while for gases, it is air (1.18) at room temperature. Specific gravity is unitless.

Thermal Properties
Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.

Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
