ARALDITE AW8680

Main features

  • Flexible Polyurethane Adhesive Formulation
  • Convenient 1:1 Volume Mixing
  • Fifteen-Minute Mixed Pot Life

Product Description

ARALDITE AW 8680 Resin is a white paste resin component for a flexible two-part polyurethane adhesive system. Published AW 8680 component characteristics include 1.14 specific gravity and 48,000 cP viscosity at 25 deg C. In the AW 8680/HW 8680 configuration, the two parts combine at 93:100 by weight or 1:1 by volume, with a typical 15-minute pot life for a 100 g mass at 25 deg C. This formulation is used for plastic bonding, including polycarbonate and nylon headlamp assemblies, and for primed metal bonding. Its cured profile combines 225% elongation with Shore D 30 hardness under the stated test conditions.

Key features

  • Paste resin consistency: The AW 8680 component has a typical viscosity of 48,000 cP at 25 deg C.
  • Convenient volume mixing: The AW 8680/HW 8680 configuration uses a 1:1 volume ratio.
  • Flexible cured system: The stated formulation reaches typical 225% elongation after cure.

Applications

Plastic bonding, including polycarbonate and nylon headlamp assemblies, and primed metal bonding in the AW 8680/HW 8680 configuration.

Technical Specifications

General Properties
Pot Life
Pot life is the amount of time it takes for the viscosity of a material to double (or quadruple for lower viscosity materials) in room temperature after a material is mixed. It is closely related to work life but it is not application dependent, less precise and more of a general indication of how fast a system is going to cure.
3 minutes
Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
250 %
Thermal Properties
Glass Transition Temperature (Tg)
The glass transition temperature for organic adhesives is a temperature region where the polymers change from glassy and brittle to soft and rubbery. Increasing the temperature further continues the softening process as the viscosity drops too. Temperatures between the glass transition temperature and below the decomposition point of the adhesive are the best region for bonding. The glass-transition temperature Tg of a material characterizes the range of temperatures over which this glass transition occurs.
