Main features

  • High-Tensile Filament Reinforcement
  • Multi-Surface Synthetic-Rubber Adhesion
  • Consistent Curl-Resistant Dispensing

Product Description

Scotch Filament Tape 898 is a clear filament-reinforced polypropylene tape with a multi-layer synthetic-rubber adhesive system for high-strength reinforcement and heavy-duty strapping. The 0.168 mm construction combines glass yarn filaments with a backing that resists nicks, abrasion, moisture, scuffing, and breakage, even when nicked or punctured. Its adhesive bonds to corrugated cardboard, fiberboard, plastics, metals, and oily surfaces, and the tape is engineered to dispense consistently without curling. The reinforced construction is intended for demanding packaging, shipment reinforcement, bundling, and strapping work.

Key features

  • High-tensile filament reinforcement: Glass yarn reinforcement provides long-term holding power and high tensile strength for demanding packaging loads.
  • Multi-surface synthetic-rubber adhesion: The adhesive system bonds to corrugated cardboard, fiberboard, plastics, metals, and oily surfaces.
  • Durable controlled dispensing: The reinforced backing resists abrasion and moisture while the roll dispenses consistently without curling.

Applications

Applications include full-overlap L-clip box closures, metal and pipe bundling, large bulk-container reinforcement, high-strength reinforcement, and heavy-duty strapping.

Total Thickness
Total thickness is taking into account all the films, coatings, adhesives, release liners and special layers and is the maximum thickness of a film or tape.
170 μm
Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
5 %
Tensile Strength (Thin Film)
Tensile strength determines the resistance of a material to break under tension and it measures how much elongating load (or tensile stress) it can handle before fracture. To make it simple, it measures how much force we have to apply when pulling apart a material before it breaks.
