Main features

  • Six-Month Outdoor Clean Removal
  • One-Year UV Exposure Resistance
  • Hand-Tear Conformable Repairs

Product Description

3M Performance Plus Duct Tape 8979 is an outdoor-capable polyethylene-film and cloth-scrim duct tape with rubber adhesive for temporary indoor and outdoor maintenance, sealing, and repair. The 0.29 mm tape tears by hand, conforms to irregular surfaces, and develops immediate initial stick on many surfaces. It removes with little or no adhesive residue from most opaque surfaces for up to six months after application and resists delamination and deterioration under outdoor UV exposure for up to one year. Typical performance includes 6.2 N/cm peel adhesion, 64 N/cm tensile strength, and 17% elongation.

Key features

  • Six-month outdoor clean removal: The tape removes with little or no adhesive residue from most opaque surfaces for up to six months after application.
  • One-year outdoor exposure resistance: The construction resists UV-related delamination and deterioration outdoors for up to one year.
  • Hand-tear conformable backing: Polyethylene film over cloth scrim tears by hand and follows irregular surfaces for temporary repairs and sealing.

Applications

Applications include temporary weather sealing, pipe and conduit capping, patching, bundling, reinforcing, insulation splicing, marking, labeling, and temporary repair.

Slate Blue, Black, Olive
Total Thickness
Total thickness is taking into account all the films, coatings, adhesives, release liners and special layers and is the maximum thickness of a film or tape.
290 μm
Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
17 %
Tensile Strength (Thin Film)
Tensile strength determines the resistance of a material to break under tension and it measures how much elongating load (or tensile stress) it can handle before fracture. To make it simple, it measures how much force we have to apply when pulling apart a material before it breaks.
64 N/cm
