3M 483

Main features

  • Stretch-Conformable Irregular-Surface Sealing
  • Low Water-Vapor Transmission
  • Up to 12-Month Outdoor Removal

Product Description

3M Polyethylene Tape 483 is a highly conformable polyethylene film tape with rubber adhesive for sealing, holding, coding, moisture proofing, and surface protection. The 0.13 mm tape stretches around textured and irregular surfaces, and its smooth backing provides a low water-vapor transmission rate with good solvent and alkali resistance. The applied tape remains flexible from -29 to 77 deg C and typically removes cleanly from most surfaces. Color options support marking and identification, while the black version provides outdoor clean removal from most surfaces for up to 12 months.

Key features

  • Stretch-conformable backing: Flexible polyethylene follows textured and irregular surfaces for sealing and protection.
  • Low moisture transmission: The smooth backing combines a low water-vapor transmission rate with good solvent and alkali resistance.
  • Outdoor black-tape removal: The black version removes cleanly from most outdoor surfaces for up to 12 months.

Applications

Applications include sealing containers and irregular objects, separating dissimilar metals, color coding, outdoor protection, and moisture-proof masking.

Mechanical Properties
Elongation
Elongation is the process of lengthening something. It is a percentage that measures the initial, unstressed, length compared to the length of the material right before it breaks. It is commonly referred to as Ultimate Elongation or Tensile Elongation at break.
300 %
Tensile Strength (Thin Film)
Tensile strength determines the resistance of a material to break under tension and it measures how much elongating load (or tensile stress) it can handle before fracture. To make it simple, it measures how much force we have to apply when pulling apart a material before it breaks.
17.5 N/cm
