3M 4799

Main features

  • Flexible EPDM and Rubber Bonding
  • Spray, Brush, or Roll Application
  • Heat- and Water-Resistant Bond

Product Description

3M Industrial Adhesive 4799 is a one-part, solvent-based adhesive for EPDM and rubber bonding in weatherproofing, roofing-membrane, rubber-sheet seaming, and maintenance applications. The brushable adhesive forms a tough, flexible bond with resistance to heat and water. It can be sprayed, brushed, or rolled into a uniform coat, giving users flexibility across production and repair workflows. One coat is sufficient for most surfaces, while porous substrates may require a second coat after the first becomes dry to the touch. This combination of application flexibility and bonded durability suits rubber assembly, seaming, and repair work.

Key features

  • EPDM and rubber bonding: The adhesive forms tough, flexible bonds in weatherproofing and rubber-sheet assemblies.
  • Multiple application methods: Spray, brush, or roll application accommodates production and maintenance workflows.
  • Heat and water resistance: The bonded adhesive resists heat and water in roofing, weatherproofing, and repair uses.

Applications

Applications include EPDM and rubber bonding, weatherproofing, roofing membranes, rubber-sheet seaming, and maintenance repair operations.

Physical Properties
Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
