Main features

  • One-Part No-Mix Application
  • Five-Minute Tack-Free Time
  • Flexible Fluid-Resistant Seal

Product Description

3M Scotch-Seal Metal Sealant 2084 is a one-part, aluminum-colored, medium-viscosity sealant for bonding and sealing aluminum to glass, other metals, and wood. The acetone-based material applies without mixing and air dries to a tough, flexible film that resists water, oil, and fuel. Typical tack-free time is 5 minutes, with approximately 24 hours to dry and gap-filling capability to 1/16 in. The cured sealant retains internal integrity and can be painted after skinning; painting after cure is recommended for areas exposed to ultraviolet light. It supports general industrial sealing, metalworking, and aluminum-to-glass assembly where a flexible fluid-resistant seal is required.

Key features

  • One-part application: The medium-viscosity sealant dispenses without mixing and air dries after placement.
  • Five-minute tack-free time: The applied material reaches a typical tack-free condition in approximately 5 minutes.
  • Flexible fluid resistance: The dried film resists water, oil, and fuel while retaining sealing integrity.

Applications

Applications include general industrial sealing, metalworking, sealing metal joints and seams, and bonding or sealing aluminum to glass, other metals, and wood.

Viscosity
Viscosity is a measurement of a fluid’s resistance to flow. Viscosity is commonly measured in centiPoise (cP). One cP is defined as the viscosity of water and all other viscosities are derived from this base. MPa is another common unit with a 1:1 conversion to cP. A product like honey would have a much higher viscosity -around 10,000 cPs- compared to water. As a result, honey would flow much slower out of a tipped glass than water would. The viscosity of a material can be decreased with an increase in temperature in order to better suit an application

Flash Point
The flashpoint of a solvent is the lowest possible temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable vapor. Flashpoint is often confused with “autoignition temperature”, which is the temperature at which a solvent ignites without an ignition source.
