Main features

  • Conductive Adhesive Path
  • 66 dB Average Shielding
  • Solderable Die-Cut Construction

Product Description

3M EMI Copper Foil Shielding Tape 1181 is a 0.066 mm copper foil tape with an electrically conductive acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive and removable liner for EMI/RFI shielding and static charge control. Silver-coated glass beads in the adhesive create an electrical path between the copper backing and the application surface. The tape averages 66 dB shielding effectiveness from 300 kHz to 2.5 GHz under ASTM D4935 testing and has maximum electrical resistance of 0.005 ohm/in2 under the stated MIL-STD-202 test. It can be die-cut and soldered for shielded-room seams, cable wrapping, electrical contact to non-solderable surfaces, and prototype electronics work.

Key features

  • Conductive adhesive path: Silver-coated glass beads provide electrical continuity between the flat copper foil and application surface.
  • Measured shielding performance: Average shielding effectiveness is 66 dB from 300 kHz to 2.5 GHz under ASTM D4935.
  • Fabrication versatility: The lined copper tape can be die-cut and soldered for production or prototype configurations.

Applications

Applications include EMI/RFI shielding, static charge draining, seaming shielded rooms, cable wrapping, contact to non-solderable surfaces, die-cut components, prototyping, and troubleshooting.

General Properties
Adhesive Layer
A layer that is applied to one surface or both to bind items together and resist their separation
Electrically Conductive Acrylic
Color
The color
Copper
Film Thickness
Film thickness is the thickness of a backing film without taking into account any coatings or adhesive layers. It is measured in micron and the conversion factor to mil is 0.039.
0.036 mm
Total Thickness
Total thickness is taking into account all the films, coatings, adhesives, release liners and special layers and is the maximum thickness of a film or tape.
66.04 μm
Mechanical Properties
Adhesion Strength
Adhesion is the bond strength measurement of a coating to a substrate. When an adhesive is bonded to an item or surface, numerous physical, mechanical and chemical forces come into play, which may have an effect on each other.
